Fall-Planted Cover Crops for Weed Suppression in Western Kansas

چکیده
The widespread evolution of herbicide-resistant (HR) kochia and Palmer amaranth warrants the use alternative ecological-based strategies for weed management in no-tillage (NT) dryland cropping systems western Kansas. A field study was established fall 2020 at Kansas State University Agricultural Research Center near Hays, KS, to determine impact fall-planted cover crop (CC) mixture on 1) suppression (density biomass reduction), 2) emergence dynamics subsequent grain sorghum. CC winter triticale, pea, radish, rapeseed planted wheat stubble 2020. terminated triticale heading stage May 26, 2021 by using Roundup PowerMax (glyphosate) 32 fl oz/a, oz/a + Degree Xtra (premix acetochlor atrazine) 2.2 quart/a. chemical fallow treatment (without CC) included comparison. site with sorghum hybrid ‘DKS 38-16’ June 10, 2021. produced an average 1360 lb/a aboveground time termination. had 98 95% less total density 0 30 days after termination (DAT), respectively, compared fallow. No difference observed later evaluations. At harvest, reduced 61% 73%, taken reach 50, 90% cumulative delayed 9, 15, 21 days, 11, 39, 128 when Grain yield did not differ between treatments. These results suggest that a can play important role NT production

Allelopathic Weed Suppression Through the Use of Cover Crops
There has long been observed an inhibitive response by plant species to certain neighboring plants. The Greek philosopher and botanist, Theophrastus, noted this effect from cabbage as early as 300 BC (Willis 1985). Since that time, others have documented similar plant interactions. In 1937, Austrian botanist, Hans Molisch, described this phenomenon as allelopathy, which he determined to be the ...
متن کاملWeed Control with Cover Crops in Irrigated Potatoes
Field experiments at Oakes, ND, USA in 2010 and Carrington, ND, USA in 2011 were conducted to evaluate the potential for cover crops grown in the Northern Great Plains, USA in order to reduce weed emergence and density in irrigated potatoes. Treatments included five cover crop treatments and three cover crop termination treatments. Termination of cover crops was done with glyphosate, disk-till,...
متن کاملSurvey the Effect of Cover Crops in Reduced Sunflower Weed Biomass
In order to evaluate the effects of cover crops on reduced weed biomass in hybrid sunflower an experiment was carried in the research stations, Natural Resources Medicinal Plants (Samian_Ardabile) with 3 replicates in 1390-1391. The first factor was considered three type of cover crops, winter rye, spring barley, winter wheat with 2 control treatment, second factor was mulch management at two ...

متن کاملWinter Cover Crops and Vinegar for Early-Season Weed Control in Sustainable Cotton
Weeds may be suppressed by winter cover crops and the use of organic herbicides such as vinegar. Black oat (Avena strigosa) and hairy vetch (Vicia villosa) winter cover crops were planted for 2 years as part of a sustainable production system for cotton in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas, and were till-killed each spring prior to cotton planting. Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri), commo...
